Research & Technology is an important component of the business ecosystem in Asia Aerospace City (AAC). AAC is fully equipped and organised with incubation facilities, to research and bring technology preparedness, for any aerospace investments into Malaysia and specifically into AAC.
The R&T arm of the AAC has started operations with a partnership with AMIC (Aerospace Malaysia Innovation Centre), an industry-led innovation centre founded by lead members Airbus Group, Rolls-Royce and Composites Technology Research Malaysia (CTRM), in 2014. The operations are currently being housed in a dedicated laboratory in the German-Malaysian Institute (GMI) in Bangi, Selangor.
Virtual Reality Immersive System Training for Aerospace Manufacturing (VIRISTAM)
The VIRISTAM programme is a collaboration project between AAC R&T, University of Malaya (UM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Aerospace Malaysia Innovation Centre (AMIC) to explore the use of virtual reality in the context of training in aerospace manufacturing. The training programme will be tailor-made for each aerospace client for their aerospace manufacturing needs.
Development of an Aerospace Tooling Ecosystem in Malaysia
This project is another collaboration with Aerospace Malaysia Innovation Centre (AMIC), whereby the research will focus on the long term development of a tooling ecosystem in Malaysia.
In particular, a pool of students and academics in the MARA education fraternities will be trained for the tooling ecosystem through real tooling projects from selected aerospace industrial companies, which in turn will source the tooling in the Malaysian supply chain.
